Are fortified foods and PHGG ok on the Candida diet.

by Nikita

I want to know if almond milks or other such beverages (that are fortified with vitamins) are allowed on the candida diet? I read somewhere that fortified foods and beverages contain yeast in them.

I also would like to know if Sunfiber - Partially hydrolyzed guar gum is okay on the diet without feeding the yeast or bad bacteria? I don't seem to tolerate psyllium husk and flax seed very well.

I have an article on almonds and almond milk here that you can review. There are different types of almond milks and some are ok and some should be avoided. Try to use low carb almond milks.

If the fortified food has yeast in it, it should say so on the label. Most do not unless it has been fermented then it might. With any fermented food, it just depends if they used yeasts or just bacteria in the fermentation process. Doing a little research on the manufacturers website should provide you with the process they used.

One level scoop of Sunfiber/Partially hydrolyzed guar gum contains 7 grams of carbohydrates and 6 grams of dietary fiber. The 6 grams of fiber will bind 6 grams of carbs as it moves through the intestine. The other 1 gram is not going to make much difference. I can't find any studies that would suggest this fiber feeds Candida or bad bacteria so it's more than likely ok.
