How long does it take Candida to begin feeding off of Ketones and/or Fat?

by Grant
(Australia)

I only just started this diet, so I'm still adjusting things. But, I'm having a hard time getting much carbs, I can only seem to manage 30-45g per day. My meals basically consist of 100g of a root/starchy vegetable, 100g non starchy vegetables, and 200g of beef with 1-2tbsp added fats. Just want to know how urgent it is to make sure your not in ketosis. (I am also only 53kg as a 6ft male) Thank you!

Please take a look at the Good Food page here and the Diet Questions page here might be helpful for some ideas to get a few more good carbs in your daily diet. You want to get about 50 to 60 grams a day to maintain immune function and stay out of ketosis.

Going into a state of ketosis will trigger Candida to shift to a hyphael form and begin to feed off fats to survive. During this time its rate of reproduction is much slower but the hyphael form is harder to kill.

Thanks Dan,

So does that mean it is ok to consume those starchy vegetables at every meal? (the highest carb veg seems to be sweet potato, butternut squash, onions, carrot/parsnip/rutabaga/beetroot, and also Chestnuts are high carb)

As long as the total carbs doesn't exceed 20g per meal (60g a day. I don't really count the non starchy carbs since they are to low to make a difference)

As I don't really want to consume grains to increase the carb count. Maybe like twice a week, but theres still 21 meals in a week I gotta figure out :)

Grant,

You really should try to count them all or use net carbs, net carbs are the carbs minus the fiber.

Above ground vegetables are better than below ground, that sweet potato is below ground.

And yes, keep totals to 20 grams per meal if possible.

You can also increase the amount of good fat you eat. Fat has 9 calories per gram verses carbs 4 calories so a little goes a long way. If you like the taste of coconut oil, you can eat a tbls at every meal.
