Why do I still have white coated tongue after Candida left the gut?

by Henrik

I finished a treatment plan with enzymes, antifungals, probiotics and diet for 4 months, but my tongue is still very white and thick coated, however not so thick as some scary pictures on the internet, but still more than normally, and it's also changing from time to time, but it never goes completely away.

I did the stool test for yeast and the result was negative, but I still have bad symptoms that appear after eating a meal. I assume the certain foods trigger the symptoms (fatigue, muscle aches, brain fog, anxiety...), but I don't know which ones, sometimes same food may or may not trigger, but usually it does for most of the foods. My assumption is this symptomatic outcome could be from leaky gut issue or maybe also IBD.

I was thinking when I am done with the treatment also the oral thrush or Candida in the mouth will go away.
So is this normal that I still have oral Candida, but the gut Candida went away? And also do you think the symptoms I have are from leaky gut or Candida?

Many times treating oneself like you did resolves oral yeast infections as well but sometimes it doesn't. In these cases, which I suggest everyone does in the beginning if the infection is in two or more places; like in your case the gut and possibly the mouth, it is best to treat both directly at the same time. On the oral yeast infection webpage there are suggestions for treating these infections directly. I would personally start with the coconut oil.

However, it is very possible the white coating is not yeast at all, it could be bad bacteria. You could have your doctor take a swab sample and send it to a lab for verification. One of the symptoms of bad bacteria in the mouth is bad breath so if you have that this is probably what it is. In this case, scrubbing your tongue twice a day when you brush your teeth is a very good idea. If you follow that up with a non alcohol mouthwash that contains thymol, which also works for yeast, you should be able to resolve the bacterial over growth.

The fatigue, muscle aches, brain fog, anxiety, etc; could be caused by what you are eating. Many foods can be inflammatory such as grains, sugars, starches, seed oils and vegetables that are high in oxylates and lectins. The only way to identify which foods are affecting you personally is to keep a diary on what foods trigger these reactions. After you identify what foods are causing problems for you, simply stop eating them. For instance, most people with Crohns can't tolerate fibrous foods so they should eliminate them from their diet.

Any other questions let me know.
